B i o g r a p h y

Native of Montreal, Julie Bélanger Roy begins her music studies in Viola Performance at Montreal Conservatory of Music, Canada, in 2000. During her years at the Conservatory, she studies with distinguished Canadian violists Robert Verebes, Jocelyne Bastien and André Roy. In 2006, she is invited to perform with l'Orchestre Symphonique de Québec. In addition to her viola training, Julie studies Voice Performance with the Canadian Mezzo-soprano Gabrielle Lavigne and sings in the Montreal Conservatory Opera Theater from 2003 to 2005. In 2007, she continues her vocal training at the University of Montreal and studies Baroque violin with the specialist Olivier Brault. 

A year later, Julie starts her graduate studies in Viola Performance at the University of Tennessee, USA, where she studies with the talented American violist Hillary Herndon. She obtains her Master's of Music in 2010. 

 

2011 is a busy year for Julie as she records her first viola solo album, Pet Tales, for the American composer Dr. Kenneth Jacobs and completes the voice, viola and violin recording of the Gone in April debut album We Are But Human. She also has the pleasure to perform with Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Oakridge Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Mountains and start her second Master's degree, this time in Voice Performance/Opera at the University of Tennessee. She there studies Voice with the international soprano Cecily Nall and Opera Performance with the Opera Director James Marvel. She graduates with her Master's degree in voice performance in May 2014.

 

Julie is active in many areas of music: she teaches, plays for local artists, performs with chamber music groups and orchestras, and is also an international recording artist.
